Honi Honi Summer Luau Deep Creek Lake. Saturday has always revolved around the lake – boating and of course the Honi Honi Bar! As we transition into summer, that party is amplified on July 28th at 1PM as people flock to the Honi Summer Luau. Chow down on the classic summertime favorites – pork BBQ made with Honi’s secret sauce, baked beans, and coleslaw. Last year they actually sold out of food because of the huge attendance so make sure you get there early. It is the norm for the Honi-Honi to have 1st class live music during the afternoon, and this year will not be any different as Velveeta will take the stage from 1-5pm. There will be luau-themed drinks to keep you refreshed during our mild summer days here at the lake. Make plans now to pack up the family and head to Deep Creek Lake this weekend and enjoy a super fun event!

Art in the Park Review-Deep Creek Lake. This weekend I had the opportunity to attend my first Art in the Park event. I really loved all the beautiful art work ranging from jewelry, pottery, photography, and wood works. The event held at Deep Creek Lake State Park had a steady crowd of people even though the weather outlook was suspect. They had local restaurants like Archie’s Barbecue catering the event, and live music to keep you satisfied while enjoying the art show. If you plan to attend this event next year, I recommend starting to save/budget some money because you will fall in love with the talented artists that are assembled yearly at this classic small town event! Two thumbs up!!!Art in the Park Review-Deep Creek Lake

Summer time here at DeepCreekLakealways turns the attention to lake and outdoor activities. If you are looking for something really fun and relaxing, I suggest visiting Black Bear Tavern on Friday and Saturday night to enjoy live music outside on the deck. Socialize and mingle with locals and visitors while listening to first class music at one of DCL’s go-to places for outdoor entertainment. Grab a favorite drink of choice and have a delicious meal while taking in the scenery only a few steps from the lake. The Davisson Brothers Band was there last week, jamming out their unique West Virginia sound with guest guitarist and the Oakland Raiders new recruit, Owen Schmitt. Owen laid down some soulful Jimmy Hendrix licks during the band’s smooth rendition of the classic tune “Little Wing”.

Give The Black Bear a call (301-387-6800) or drop by on your next visit to see what is happening “On The Deck”. Take a deep breath and relax, because that is what visiting us here at Deep Creek is all about.

Deep Creek Lake Waterfalls

Garrett County Waterfalls- Deep Creek Lake. Next time you are visiting Deep Creek Lake, be sure to visit Swallow Falls State Park and experience a trip back in time with three spectacular waterfalls. Only a short walk from the parking area is the breathtaking 53’ Muddy Creek Falls. It is the highest waterfall in the state ofMaryland and used to be a regular campsite for Harvey Firestone, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford in the early twentieth century.  The park has towering ancient Hemlock trees and trails that will take you to two more waterfalls that both have unique personalities.SwallowFalls exists because of a huge bottleneck in the mightyYoughioghenyRiver that increases the water flow causing it to explode over an enormous rock outcropping. This is a great place to bring the kids during the summer to let them slide on the rocks and swim in the refreshing river. LittleTolliverFalls is a short walk upstream and is a favorite of mine to photograph. It is tucked a few footsteps from theYoughRiver and has a very peaceful setting that can keep you mesmerized for hours with its soothing calm. Make sure you enjoy this beautiful part of our great country on your next visit to the lake. Like me, you will become a regular at returning to these special places over and over again, each time blowing you away like the first time you laid eyes on these national treasures.

Fire on the Mountain 2012

If you are like me you have a Charlie Daniels song floating around in your head after hearing these words. “Fire on the mountain, lightning in the air” goes the old country rock classic song. Well this year we got a little bit of fire and lightning. The event normally commenced at 9:00pm’ish but was delayed a bit this year because of a huge hail/lightning/rain event that backed up the starting time 45 minutes or so.

Fire on the Mountain 2012-Deep Creek

In case there are a few of you out there that have no clue what I am talking about; Fire on the Mountain is a Fourth of July fireworks event that lights the sky above Wisp Ski Resort every year here at Deep Creek Lake. People line Highway 219 for an optimum vantage point.  Or they come by boat to sneak in close to the resort, sit atop Wisp ski slope to catch an eye level view of the fire show, or go to Deep Creek Marina to witness the show while enjoying the new line of boats available for the summer season. Make sure you put this exhilarating event on the calendar with the kiddies next year if you didn’t make it to this year’s event.

Accident Maryland Annual 4th of July Parade 2012. This parade represents United States small town living at its finest! The annual 4th of July parade in Accident Maryland is just a few minutes outside of popular Deep Creek Lake. This event just screams All American, apple pie, good-time living, and I think the hundreds of people who jammed the streets of this town would certainly agree. I have families that are of college age who have been participating in this parade since they were in diapers. They made the pilgrimage from Virginia and Wisconsin to once again be involved in this parade.  It was a treat seeing an assembly line of vintage cars, floats, fire trucks, marching bands and folks on horseback. Garrett counties own Delegate Wendell Beitzel and Maryland Senator George C. Edwards also participated in the parade.  My beautiful and newly pregnant wife Betsy and I relaxed street side in the shade under a huge mature Silver Maple dreaming of the day in the near future that our child would start his or hers participation in this fantastic event. Be sure not to miss it next year!
