Christmas in the Village December 1st and 2nd Held at Spruce Forest Artisan Village in Grantsville, this is a favorite area tradition. Enjoy strolling and live music in the Village Church, activities in the Village buildings, and luminaries throughout the Village and on the Casselman Bridge. More info.

The Garrett County Fair is one of the best-loved summertime activities! There is no shortage of fun for the entire family. The 2023 Garrett County Fair dates are July 29-August 5.
Growing up in Garrett County the fair was not to be missed. Every kid wants to spend as much time there as possible. Rides, games, food and farm animals are just a few reasons to visit the fair at least once during the week.

Christmas in the Village Friday, December 3rd, 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm , Saturday, December 4th, 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Held at Spruce Forest Artisan Village in Grantsville, this is a favorite area tradition. Enjoy strolling and live music in the Village Church, activities in the Village buildings, hot chocolate and cider, and luminaries throughout the Village paths and over the Casselman River Bridge. In addition to the activities in the Spruce Forest Artisan Village, there are guest artists in the Great Room above Penn Alps.
A Great Small Town Christmas December 3 and 4, Oakland A Great Small Town Christmas kicks off with a tree lighting ceremony on Friday, December 3rd at the B&O Museum. There will also be sleigh rides, carols, store specials, and a special treat from Santa! Saturday the fun continues with Soup N’ Santa! Area non-profits will hand out free soup (donations are encouraged), visit with Santa, free sleigh rides, live music, and local shopping.

Live entertainment is back for 2021! We are excited that many of our favorite venues are featuring performances throughout the summer.

Oakland, MD is starting summer a little early! The Greater Oakland Business Associations’s event team has something special planned to celebrate the season.
Oakland Kick-Off to Summer
The “Kick Off to Summer” event is Saturday, June 12th. It will be held in the Arts & Entertainment District in downtown Oakland. Festivities will take place from 2-6PM. Activities include a cornhole tournament, a Beer Walk, food vendors, live music, sidewalk sales, artist exhibits, kid’s activities, a car show, and much more.
Tickets are available for the Beer Walk and can be purchased in advance or on the day of the event. The cost is for $15 per person. You must be at least 21 years old and will need to present a valid ID to event personnel on staff. Tickets can be purchased on the porch of the Garrett County Historical Society building. Six locations will offer samples of two different types of local, craft beer. Visit all six locations to get a free commemorative glass. Beer tent locations include: the B&O Museum, The Gallery Shop, Sipside Lounge, Gean & Olive, The Vagabond Taproom, and Smoke n Mirrors. The Beer Walk is sponsored by: Craig Ingram, Taylor-Made Deep Creek Vacations & Sales, and Deep Creek Times.
The Garrett County Celtic Festival 2021 is happening! Organizers recently announced that they are moving forward with the event. There will be a few changes from past years, but it will still be a fun event for the entire family.
About the Garrett County Celtic Festival 2021
This year’s festival will once again be held in the Friendsville town park on the Youghiogheny River. It is a picturesque venue with lots of space to spread out. It will take place Saturday, June 5 from 10:30AM-6PM.
Tickets must be purchased in advance. They will not be sold on-site. Prices are reasonable for adults and kids. Adults $15, ages 11-18 $10, and $10 and under are free. Click here for ticket info.
If you have attended in the past, keep in mind that the festival will have a different look. It will be pared down but still lots of fun. The pipe and drum corps will play throughout the day. There will be three stage bands – Shanty Irish, Sean Heely Celtic Trio, and Aurora Celtic. Additionally, there will be a performance by the Teelin Irish Dance Company. Ruth Enlow Library will provide activities for the kids. Food and beverage vendors will be on-hand as well.
Oakland is filled with small town charm, and that is never more evident than at Christmas. The COVID-19 crisis has impacted many events. However, the town has found safe and fun ways to celebrate the holidays this year. It might look a little different, but you can still catch the spirit of the season!
Oakland Christmas Events
The town of Oakland is gearing up to celebrate A Great Small Town Christmas. You are encouraged to shop at local stores and “Snap an Elfie”. December 5th through 19th, participating businesses will have an Elf on display. When a you make a purchase at their establishment, you can take an “Elfie” (selfie) with the elf and your receipt, purchase, shopping bag, etc. Upload that Elfie to Facebook and check into the business. By making a purchase and checking in on facebook, you are entered into a drawing for a prize to be chosen by that participating shop. The Lucky Elves displayed in the businesses will be provided by local artist and GOBA member, Lin Gilbert from Artists and Dreamers. Due to COVID-19, the Soup and Santa event is cancelled. Instead, Santa Claus will visit Oakland and hanging out at the Front Page Stage. He will be there Saturday, December 5th, 12th, and 19th from 11am until 2pm. To ensure safety and social distancing, there will be a drive through for children to see Santa. He will be able to talk with them from a distance using a PA system and treat bags will be given out as they drive by.
