Description:

Deep Creek Lake State Park Beach

Where can you launch your boat, take a swim, hike to the site of an historic coal mine, renta a paddleboard, learn about the black bear and pick up a few souvenirs along the way?

You can do all this and much more at Deep Creek Lake State Park!

Situated at the base of Meadow Mountain, Deep Creek Lake State Park was opened to the public in July of 1959.  The park includes approximately 1 mile of shoreline, offering access for fishing, swimming and boat launching.  Protected by lifeguards during the summer months, the expansive sandy beach is a popular place to beat the heat.  If that doesn’t cool you off, the concession stand features a variety of snacks including ice cream.  Picnic tables, grills, pavilions, playgrounds and restrooms dot the surrounding landscape.  Ideal for family gatherings, the picnic pavilions may be reserved in advance for a fee. Wisp Resort has on-site kayak, paddleboard, and canoe rentals too.

BOAT RAMP

Deep Creek Lake's only public boat ramp is located at the park.  It is open year round, unless winter weather or ice conditions prohibit access.  The park also offers a transient visitor dock for those traveling by boat.  Cast a line from one of several fishing docks.  The lake is well stocked with trout, walleye, bass and yellow perch.

DEEP CREEK LAKE DISCOVERY CENTER

Operated by the Department of Natural Resources, the Deep Creek Lake Discovery Center brings people and the natural environment together through interpretive programs.  Visitors can learn about flora and fauna, wildlife and area history and culture through hands on exhibits and educational programs.  Park naturalists and volunteers lead hikes highlighting a variety of topics including:  bird watching, tree identification and wildflowers.  Educational talks focus on subjects such as black bear management, area endangered species, boating safety, and trail stewardship.  Stop by the Nature Shop for gifts and souvenirs with a natural resources theme.

HIKING TRAILS

Ensconced in lush stands of oaks and hickories, Meadow Mountain is a hiker’s delight with over 9 miles of trails to explore.  The 6 trails offer something for all ability levels and are also open to mountain bikes.  One of the more popular hikes is the Brant Mine Trail.  This half mile trail leads hikers to the site of the historic Brant coal mine and homesite.  The mine was worked by the Brant family and supplied bituminous coal to local residents for heating and blacksmithing.
